Matthias Gfriller born 1659 in Brixen

In 1996, during a visit to London to see Charles Beare, one of the world's most renowned experts on string instruments, Stephen Lloyd was able to confirm the sensational discovery that Matteo Goffriller was not born in Venice, as originally thought, but in Brixen on February 10, 1659. This fact was completely unknown to the city of Brixen. Finally, with the help of several original documents, Lloyd managed to locate Matteo Goffriller's birthplace at Trattengasse 20 in Brixen. Since the origins and career of this world-famous master so aptly symbolize the principle that "music spans the world," Irene Troi and Stephen Lloyd decided to name the association and the youth orchestra after him.
